Moloa’a Bay is a picturesque and great beach to visit when the ocean is calm and winds are light, particularly during the summer months. If you are a couple or just a very small group we now have a Summer special package with limited photos. This will only be shot by two of our best Kauai photographers, Paddy Kean and Spencer McDonald. They have 25 years in the industry and as a husband and wife team have now settled down in Kauai to retire from the demanding film industry.

This location is one of the best they say they have photographed and is about 1/2 hour from Kapa’a Town and not too far from Hanalei and Princeville.

1. Select a venue with natural decor. Doing fancy décor causes a carbon a footprint because of all the materials needed.
2. Use potted plants as centerpieces that double as favors. In Hawaii there are resources for potted Orchids.
3. In Hawaii we like to honor those who have past by throwing lei (garlands of flowers) into the ocean. The string can hurt reefs and the fish. Use only loose flowers or petals instead.
4. Send save-the-dates and directions via email or post them on your wedding Website. Use simple invitations on recycled paper to also save on cost and postage.
5. Many photographers now have web galleries to view your images. Have your family and friends view them through the gallery rather than from hard copies.
6. Use the same floral arrangements from the ceremony at the reception or restaurant. We will give you ideas on how to use local flowers whenever possible.
7. Double bridesmaids’ bouquets as table decor at the reception.
8. Have the bridesmaids where a dress they already have or will wear again or buy used dresses if possible.
9. Instead of purchasing faux jewels, add a family heirloom to your bouquet. This can add sparkle and personalization.
10. We can assist you with finding donation centers that will take any leftover food to a shelter and left over flowers to a nursing home.

In ancient time marriage as it is known today did not exist. There were no contracts whether religious or civil. Many couples had enduring relationships nevertheless. There was a ceremony called the ho’ao and was a ritual of the chiefly class. The purpose of the ho’ao was not to bind a couple in marriage but to produce offspring whose rank was certain and whose reservoir of mana was assured. High ranking kahuna or priests, members of the chiefly families and others who had interest in the line offered prayers and rituals and chants that were suggestive of the qualities sought in the hope for offspring. This was done for days, weeks and sometimes months of waiting for confirmation of the pregnancy.

When doing a ceremony today, several Hawaiian elements can incorporated into a traditional ceremony such as the blowing of the conch shell or pu, chanting and blessing of rings with salt water from the ocean. Also the blessing of the space or beach area prior to the ceremony.  Many couples love the exchange of Hawaiian lei between each other and or family members and guests.

The Kahu Ryan Kalama embraces the unification of the couples he blesses on their special day. By blessing the area of the ceremony prior to the arrival of guests he opens up the spiritual pathways.  In a natural setting the ambience of nature is present if one looks and listens to the birds, turtles, wind, trees rustling and the sunrise or sunset or a sudden rainbow that may appear. We now share a bonding experience with all things Hawaiian.

The sensitivity of the ceremony is very important to the Kahu and he will customize his ceremony as each couple wishes it to be. The blessing of the leis and then exchanging them with each other represents the giving of one’s heart. The giving of Aloha, a gesture of love, honor and respect. The giving of the Ha, the breath of love and life.

The evening was spent at a private Hawaiian luau with a live Polynesian show, great food, laughter and lots of Aussie humor!

We give thanks and are grateful to have people come from all over the world to enjoy our Aloha and share with us their grateful hearts.

Formally from Chicago, they were surrounded by some new and old friends they made throughout the years. Dick’s brother and sister in-law stood up with them and 2 best friends from Kauai.

We kept the theme very casual so as not to dilute the true meaning of the celebration.
The Kahu Ryan Kalama opened up the ceremony with Hawaiian Chant and Kalona wrote a customized ceremony just for Dick and David. The ceremony was followed with cocktails on the lanai and a nice plated meal. Of course we had a lot of Hawaiian music and some hula to round off the celebration and dancing!

With Civil Unions now legal here in Hawaii many couples are coming from as far as the east coast of the United States, Australia and Canada. Next step, legalization of marriage in Hawaii !

The day was perfect! The sun was warm in the country and the breezes gently cooled us on the famous Shipwreck Beach. In Hawaiian the beach is called “Keoneloa”, meaning “the long sands.”

DJ, Chris Childress of Twilight audio at www.twilightaudio.com installed the lighting and sound for the evening. He is not only a very cool and savvy DJ, he can do fabric decor draping as well. Bottom line is: Chris is the DJ that will go the extra mile to make sure the bride and groom are always happy!

Here we used a very interesting lantern call Jigsaw Lamps. The lamps gave a very nice effect in this clear top tent at one of our favorite venues. They come in various colors, sizes and shapes. We did not go over the top with decor because of expense but a little can go a long way and we can help you stay on budget with simple designs.

The evening ended with a Hawaiian hula show and Samoan fire dancers! Hana Hou!

Our Ministers on Oahu and Kauai have all been certified since the 1st of January to legally perform the ceremony. I have come across a few couples that were not able to find a simple service just so they can get the basic paper work done. We are ready to do smaller service if that is all you require. Many wedding ministers simply do not want to be part of a Civil Union.

On Kauai we have the Rev. Amorosa DeGracia. She will also assist you with the creation of your ceremony by sending you samples to work with to edit as you please. She is a joy to work with! We also arrange simple ceremonies with Unity Church Ministers.
